I’ve always enjoyed the challenge of trying to capture the character of a person in a painting or sculpture. The way a person stands, or holds his or her head, speaks volumes about that individual and their personality. The same applies to animals – each has its own distinctive character traits that can be brought to the canvas or formed in clay.
I work primarily in oils and acrylic and occasionally in watercolour. The two painting series that I’ve recently finished consist of female nudes in traditional poses, and 'Taking Care of Business', playfully interpreted confident working women - both series are oil on canvas. My current project is called 'Persons of Interest' and will be painted in the layering technique of the Flemish masters.
My sculptures are usually in clay and cast in plaster, or directly modeled in plaster. Papier mâché is also a fun medium to work with – it lends itself to looser and lighter subject matter. 'Joy' is a sample of a papier mâché sculpture.
